Free play is constantly adjusted to ensure a biting point and action that never changes. Engine Management GASGAS uses two different sized throttle bodies on our Enduro bikes â a 42mm Keihin unit on our 4-strokes and a 39mm DellâOrto throttle body on our 2-strokes. On the EC 250F and EC 350F GASGAS claims immediate throttle response is guaranteed due to the throttle cable being mounted directly, without a throttle linkage. The injector is positioned to ensure the most efficient flow into the combustion chamber. Things are a little more involved on our 2-stroke bikes, where a Throttle Position Sensor TPS relays airflow data to the ECU, which in turn calculates the amount of oil and fuel delivered to the engine! The end result on all bikes is crisp, clean running motors that deliver smooth, strong power. Working away behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the high-performance GASGAS Enduro bikes, on our 4-strokes the Keihin EMS system controls everything to do with the electronic fuel injection system as well as featuring a gear sensor, that tailors power delivery for each gear. Superfast at processing data, on our 2-strokes the EMS features an Electronic Control Unit ECU that is responsible for a number of functions. Most importantly it eliminates the need for jetting changes. 2021 GASGAS Motocross The 2021 GASGAS motocross range coming to Australia will include the MC 125, MC 250F and MC 450F. For juniors there will be a MC 50, MC 65, MC 85 and electric MC-E5. Designed to work harmoniously with both frame and swingarm to offer incredible energy absorption, the shock is also matched to a linkage system with a specific geometry that further aids traction. Rebound and high/low speed compression adjustment and 300mm of travel means GASGAS Motocross bikes are ready to take on the roughest tracks. Brembo Hydraulic Clutch No need for adjustment and a near maintenance-free operation, but the best thing about the Brembo hydraulic clutch is that it delivers a perfectly smooth action time and time again. With lever free-play automatically adjusted, the biting point and function of the clutch remain constant no matter if itâs hot or cold. Brembo Brakes Fast is fun but slowing down is essential, which is why all GASGAS Motocross bikes are fitted with Brembo calipers and controls. With 260mm front and 220mm solid rear disks, braking is easy, inspiring riders to push harder and ride faster. 2021 GASGAS Price List Mini MC-E 5 $8,290 MC 50 $5,055 MC 65 $6,775 MC 85 $8,090 Motocross MC 125 $10,515 MC 250F $11,525 MC 450F $12,540 Enduro EC 250 $12,940 EC 250F $12,940 EC 350F $13,750 EC 300 $14,155 2021 GASGAS models will be available from December. Direct from the EnduroGP paddock, Enduro21âs takes a quick âsnoop aroundâ the GASGAS Factory Racing EC 250F Pro bike which reigning E1 World Enduro Champion Andrea Verona is racing in the 2021 GP season. EnduroGP is back and that means Enduro21 is back, snooping round the World Championship paddocks checking out the bikes. How the best riders in the world set up their bikes, the mods the factory teams make and the details behind these rocketships always makes for fascinating viewing and we never get tired of unearthing a few of the gems they have hidden. As the only official GASGAS entry in the EnduroGP World Championship, Andrea Veronaâs GASGAS EC 250F is one special bike. Verona is the reigning E1 class world champion having taken the title in his first senior season in 2020 and switched to the newly formed GASGAS Factory Racing team in the off-season. The Italian arrives at his home GP this weekend in Edolo as joint points leader and very much a favourite, not just for the class win but for the scratch victory as well. For this Pro Bike feature, rather than a full sweep across the whole bike because the bike had to be whisked away, weâve focused on some details which stand out the most. Handguard hacks Enduro21 began snooping along the handlebars of Veronaâs GASGAS, checking out the billet aluminium throttle housing and standard ODI grips. The throttle housing is simply a stronger part which features on many of the KTM and Husqvarna factory machines in the World Enduro paddocks. One nice touch we spotted is the cable tie on the Acerbis handguards. The cable tie loops around and back through a small piece of plastic tubing before securing on the hydraulic hose. They basically hold the guard in place firmly but easily bust as the weakest point if Andrea hits a tree or drops the bike. That way the handguard doesnât get broken most the time and the cable tie is easily replaced ahead of the next test. The Acerbis frame guards look tidy too, especially the right side one which neatly protects the rear brake master cylinder. Low rise Renthals Verona uses Renthal 999 bend handlebars which is a pretty low bend and not uncommon with the fast traditional enduro boys who prefer the leverage lower bars bring. The Renthalâs sit on solid bars clamps and the GASGAS Technical Accessories anodised fork clamps. In terms of the brakes, they run Brembo calipers with the factory unit on the front which is also found in the GASGAS Technical Accessories catalogue. A MotoMaster front brake disc is coupled with a Brembo master cylinder, replacing the standard Braktec caliper on the stock GG. Brembo sponsors the team bikes so it is no surprise to see the full system is swapped out for their parts. The main reason to upgrade the front caliper though is for more braking power and feel at the lever. Another stock part replaced on Andreaâs bike are the rims. The team fit stronger Excel, black anodised rims front and rear, plus they use the Metzeler Six Days enduro tyres and ânormally hardâ mousses. Leaning towards MX set-up The word in the GASGAS factory awning is Andreaâs bike leans towards an MX bike set-up and as such is much stiffer than the stock EC 250F â as youâd expect. For this first GP in Portugal they used a seven litre, motocross fuel tank. They have the option to fit the litre EC 250F tank you see it fitted in some of the images we used â these were pre-season shots if needed when for example an event is running a longer transfer and overall lap. Generally they find thereâs no need and the Portuguese GP was certainly a long enough lap to prove economy is not an issue, despite Veronaâs full gas throttle hand. They also run the stock MC 250F footpegs which are six millimetres lower than whatâs found on the EC enduro model, which isnât an uncommon mod found on many KTM/Husqvarna/GASGAS enduro race bikes. Longer wheelbase One set-up detail we also spotted was Andrea runs a pretty long chain â in Portugal for the first GP of 2021 it was sitting pretty far back in the swingarm. Itâs all about the bike handling the team explained, simply the longer chain makes the wheelbase longer and that means a more stable but slower turning bike. The gearbox is six-speed as standard on the EC 250F model but with 49 rear and 13 front final drive gear ratios on the Supersprox sprockets. Sexy sumpguard Rear suspension linkage ratios are different to standard although we were not able to get exact details donât forget the GASGAS models run linkage rear suspension on the Enduro models like Husqvarnas rather than the KTM PDS, non-linkage system. The linkage is protected by the Acerbis sumpguard and linkage protector which sits really nicely under there, protecting the suspension linkage arms. The GASGAS Factory Racing team is new to the GP paddock but actually is the red arm of the same Farioli team which houses Josep Garcia on the KTM and this weekend in Edolo they also welcome Manuel Lettenbichler and Taddy Blazusiak. Their factory EC 250F, just as youâd expect, was looking immaculate ahead of the Friday night Super Test. We caught our first glimpse of the Gas Gas Enduro GP250 early last year. In fact, we saw the GP before we knew anything about the 2018 Gas Gas range. THIS FEATURE WAS FIRST PUBLISHED IN ADB ISSUE 470 â NOVEMBER 2018 WORDS Olly Malone PIX Kane OâRourke Iâm a sucker for special editions. It could be a special edition Four ânâ Twenty pie with 40% less fat and Iâd buy it. Even my Holden Bogandore ute was a Stormâ edition. All it had was a chrome exhaust tip but I had to have it! Itâs the same with dirtbikes. Ever since I started riding all I ever wanted was a Gas Gas Nambotin edition. Based on the bike ridden by then factory rider Christophe Nambotin, it was the trickest bike going around, in my eyes anyway. One of my first dirtbikes was a Gasser and although I had my heart set on a Nambo Iâd only worked enough hours at Woolies to afford an EC200 so it had to do â still, it had Ohlins. Over a decade has passed since the days when Iâd spend hours online ogling the Nambo and Gasser has come up with a new special edition that will no doubt convert more than a few KTM Six-Days owners. Itâs called the Enduro GP. We caught our first glimpse of the Enduro GP early last year. In fact, we saw the Enduro GP before we knew anything about the 2018 Gas Gas range. At the time it was being ridden by Gas Gas factory rider Jonathan BarragĂĄn in the World Enduro Championship and it was the bike on which Gas Gas based its production Enduro GP model. What separates the Enduro GP from the EC range is a long list of performance mods and a few nice âblingâ components. TALKING BLING Starting with what I think is the most important thing, the Enduro GP features a different cylinder head to the EC. The new one is designed to increase torque and, after riding the GP250 and EC250 back-to-back, this isnât just marketing hype, but more on that later. Itâs assisted by a full FMF exhaust system EC has FMF muffler, which is Gas Gas branded but looks a lot like the popular FMF Gnarly. Less noticeable but still important is the Rekluse clutch cover and housing that Gasser says âincreases efficiency and coolingâ. The handlebar is Renthalâs top-notch 997 Twin-Wall feels rock solid compared to the standard 7/8-incher. The 48mm KYB closed cartridge fork has been given a DLC coating that allows the fork to slide through the stroke with less friction, while X-Trig machined, red anodized triple-clamps and CNC-machined handlebar clamps complete the front-end modifications. The front disc is floating and the axle has a handle for quick tyre changes during races. Black spokes, a black anodised aluminium sprocket, Enduro GP plastics and graphics and Enduro GP-themed gripper seatcover complete the modifications. For all of the above you pay $1200 on top of the standard EC, which makes the GP250 $12,990 and the GP300 $13,490. To put that into perspective, thatâs $1005 less than the fuel-injected Husqvarna TE250i and $1805 less than the TE300i. If youâre looking at a KTM, itâs $1805 less than the 250 EXC TPI Six-Days and $2505 less than the 300 EXC TPI Six-Days. But those savings mean nothing if the bike doesnât perform well, lucky for Gas Gas they can walk the walk. Victoriaâs Wombat State Forest was the site of the exclusive press launch for the GP250 where ADB and a New Zealand journo were the first media in Australasia to ride the new model. When I first saw the Enduro GP I had to do a double take as itâs harder to pick from an EC than the Gas Gas Six Days yet its performance enhancements are far greater. Sitting on the GP before even starting the engine it feels race ready with its Renthal handlebar, red triple-clamps and super-grippy seat. The choke lever has gone from the handlebar, an usual feature which remains on the EC and XC, and on the GP itâs mounted on the Keihin PWK38 carby, as God intended. The GP still has a few quirks, most noticeable is the side-mounted starter motor which is a little old-fashioned, but we guess itâs something Gasser will address when it re-engineers the crankcase. The set-up worked perfectly during our test and the GP has a kickstarter for all you nervous types who donât trust the magic button. Sharper response Fire the engine into life and it dings away at idle no different to its EC brother as they share the same FMF PowerCore muffler. Blip the throttle and thereâs a sharper response from the engine, a hint the new cylinder head and combustion chamber are not just for show. Engage the clutch, which has a slightly heavier but more consistent action than the standard EC one, pull away and crack open the throttle and the GP surges forward. The torque from the 250 is not as strong at low revs as from the 300 but what it lacks in torque it makes up for in mid-to-top-end. The GP250 has a meaty mid-range and potent top-end that reminds you youâre riding a two-stroke. You can thank the new cylinder head for that. Itâs not 300 smoothâ; there is a noticeable kick from mid-range to top-end which two-stroke fans will like. The engine picks up revs so quickly, quicker than a 300 due to the lighter piston, and throttle response is precise. Because the 250 is slightly down on torque versus the 300 your gear selection needs to be more accurate. Itâs nothing like a 125 or 200 but you canât be as lazy as you can on a 300. The suspension settings are the same, except for the DLC, but after riding the GP and EC back-to-back they feel completely different. The fork and shock are more plush and travel through the stroke more smoothly than the standard KYB gear on the EC. DLC TREATMENT The ride over small bumps and low-speed trail junk is smoother and feels like you donât have to do as much with the âbar to keep tracking straight. However, up the ante and, at high-speed, the fork feels as though it sits in a better part of the stroke that works well on fast sections of trail so, even though you have slow-speed plushness, it doesnât hurt hi-speed handling. You can thank the DLC for that as it allows the fork to move through the stroke with less friction from the seals, the difference is noticeable. This made the GP250 more predictable and I felt like I always knew what it was going to do, even when tree roots would catch me off guard as the sun dipped behind the mountains in Wombat, the reaction from the bike was very predictable. In terms of ergonomics, the GP is comfortable to ride, more comfortable than the EC for someone of my height. The bend of the 997 Renthal is less raked than the EC handlebar and that opens up the cockpit. Even though the 997 bend is no taller it still makes standing a lot more comfortable and didnât destroy my back. If youâre the type of person to buy a bike only to modify it straight away, the Gas Gas Enduro GP is something worth considering. If weâre talking only dollars and cents it makes a lot of sense to pay the extra cash at the time of purchase. Not only is it another level compared to the EC250 in terms of handling and power, to buy all the parts on the GP individually would cost significantly more than what Gasser is asking for the GP on top of the EC. For that, the GP is a great buy and it has the performance to match. Related Posts
